Core Automotive Embedded Software Developer

Design, develop, and maintain safety-critical software for automotive Vehicle Control Units, modernising a MATLAB/Simulink-generated codebase into a modular, hardware-independent C/C++ platform for multiple vehicle configurations.
What you'll do
- Port, refactor, and optimise MATLAB/Simulink autogenerated VCU code into structured, maintainable C/C++
- Develop safety-critical vehicle control software in line with AUTOSAR principles and relevant automotive standards
- Design a modular, hardware-agnostic architecture with configurable powertrain, actuator timing, and safety parameters
- Implement XCP calibration and measurement, plus UDS and OBD-II diagnostics with DTC management
- Build an x86 simulation and mock environment with automated unit tests for hardware-independent validation
- Debug complex embedded software issues, optimise performance, and participate in code reviews and validation
- Design secure XCP firmware flashing and support FOTA updates with optional A/B partitioning
- Define CAN interfaces, telemetry data contracts, and integrations between VCU firmware and GSM/telematics modules
Key requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong Embedded C/C++ skills in automotive or safety-critical real-time systems
- Hands-on experience developing embedded software for ECUs, VCUs, or similar control systems
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and autogenerated embedded software
- Strong understanding of modular architecture, hardware abstraction, interface design, and CAN communication
- Experience with embedded debugging tools, diagnostic equipment, and software validation
- Familiarity with RTOS or bare-metal environments, version control, CI/CD, and unit testing
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills with fluent written and spoken English
Nice to have
- AUTOSAR architecture and ISO 26262 functional safety principles
- XCP calibration, UDS diagnostics, OBD-II, and DTC management
- LIN, FlexRay, firmware bootloaders, secure flashing, and FOTA implementations

General Embedded Developer

Design, implement, and maintain embedded software for the non-safety-critical firmware layer - owning the firmware for a Linux-based GSM module that handles telemetry, FOTA, and remote device management.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain firmware for a Linux/Raspberry Pi-based GSM module covering telemetry forwarding, MQTT communication, and FOTA execution
- Implement remote device provisioning and management integration with Azure IoT Hub
- Maintain software and firmware versioning and inventory tracking on the device side
- Work with the Core Automotive Embedded Developer to ensure data is correctly exposed over CAN and forwarded to the cloud
- Ensure OTA update reliability and fallback behaviour
- Interface with the backend and cloud team on data contracts and MQTT topic structure
Key requirements
- Comfortable working on Linux-based embedded targets (Raspberry Pi-based GSM module)
- Embedded firmware development experience in C or C++
- Experience with GSM/cellular module firmware or communication-focused embedded work
- Familiarity with MQTT - message structures, QoS levels, and broker interaction
- Understanding of OTA firmware update mechanisms and reliability patterns
- Basic CAN bus comprehension for VCU layer data integration
- Azure IoT Hub or equivalent cloud device management experience
Nice to have
- Device provisioning workflows and fleet-scale firmware versioning
- MQTT bridging between an embedded device and a cloud broker
- Telemetry data pipeline understanding
- Automotive embedded systems background
